Early in his freelance career Richard had many opportunities to illustrate book covers and magazine covers. A lot of the early pieces were done with Harcourt Inc., and Scholastic Publishing illustrating Educational book covers. Magazines included Yankee Magazine, Cross Country Skier, Fly Fisherman, Ducks Unlimited, and Readers Digests Angels Magazine.
In 1997 Richard illustrated his first full length children’s picture book, Pam Conrad’s “Animal Lullabies” Published by Harper Collins. Soon came a book based on the classic Christmas song/story “Frosty the Snowman” for…….(go ahead and pick up from “breaking into books)
